From the Principal

Being an alumnus of Washington Elementary School (I started my first year of school here as a 5 year old) I have a great fondness for Washington Elementary School for many reasons. Of all the schools I have worked in during my career, I consider Washington to be my “easy school”. I say it is my “easy school” because we have such great students and parents. We have minimal behavioral issues. Of course there will always be children who get into trouble of some kind, but the issues that we deal with here at Washington School are fewer and less severe than any school where I have previously served.

Many parents are active in our school, volunteering in classrooms, helping with celebrations, serving in PTA, etc. With parents who are active parts of their children’s school lives, our children feel a part of a larger family.

I also attribute the positive atmosphere of our school to the dedication and attitudes of our teachers and staff members. Several years ago we worked diligently to implement a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports system that is school wide.

Along with the positive atmosphere that you can visibly see here, our school is optimally located in south Sandpoint, Idaho near Lake Pend Oreille, city parks and businesses. Our school is truly a learning community with students in Kindergarten through grade six.

Our neighborhood school of over 320 students hosts two teachers for each grade level and one teacher for two sessions of Kindergarten, AM and PM, and several specialists. The staff of 36 personnel dedicates themselves to the success of each child.

Our mission is to assist and empower students to reach their full potential in a safe environment.

Our Motto is GRRR - - -

Respect to Self

Respect to Others

Respect to Property

It's All About Respect.
